The best nutritious snacks you should be eating

Cutting down on snacks and treats is one of the best ways to stick to your diet and help you lose weight. Eating healthy and filling meals, taking plenty of exercise and drinking lots of water are all proven ways to help beat cravings. But did you know that there are plenty of healthy snacks that you can eat, almost guilt free, and still lose weight? In this blog we’ll look at some of the best healthy snacks that will help you curb your cravings.

Fruit and cheese
Cheese is a great source of protein and when combined with fresh fruit it is a delicious and filling treat. The fibre from the fruit helps to make you feel full while the natural fat in cheese staves off cravings. Moderation is the key with this snack and low fat cheese should be chosen.

Nuts
Not only are nuts packed with protein, fibre and essential fats, but they’re also one of the tastiest snacks available. A small cupped handful of unsalted nuts around 30g in size is the perfect snack and one that is full of health benefits. From almonds and Brazil nuts to cashews and pistachios there are plenty of nuts to choose from.

Popcorn
There’s something so satisfying about popcorn that’s hard to explain. Perhaps the best part about it is that there is so much of it as it puffs up in size by around 4 times once popped. For the ultimate in indulgent treat choose to make your own whole-grain popcorn and flavour with sea salt

Peanut butter
Chunky or smooth, peanut butter is one of the most indulgent of treats and a great way of adding extra protein and fibre to your diet. It can be spread on toast, used in a dipping sauce or added to fruit to provide a great tasting treat that’s packed full of healthy fats.

Seeds
Any list of superfoods will normally contain at least one form of seed such as chia, hemp or flax as they are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and contain a number of crucial antioxidants. Seeds can also be used to add flavour and texture to healthy options such as unsweetened Greek yoghurt and low-fat cottage cheese.

Avocado
Whether eating at your desk at work, topping a salad or smashing and spreading on toast with eggs for breakfast, avocado is a superfood that is here to stay. A small avocado contains around 220 calories and around 9 grams of fibre. It is also full of potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C and is incredibly filling.

Whey protein shake
For anyone heading to the gym at lunch or after work make sure you load up with a whey protein shake around 1 – 2 hours beforehand. Not only will a whey protein shake make sure you’ve got the fuel you’ll need but it will also help reduce your cravings and lower your appetite.
So there we have it, the top healthy snacks that you should be eating and drinking.
